SiC adoption in mid-power industrial converters
Silicon carbide is no longer limited to flagship traction inverters. Mid-power industrial PFC and isolated DC-DC stages are moving to 650 V and 1200 V SiC MOSFETs because the reduction in magnetics volume now pays back at production volumes that used to be silicon-only. The practical constraint is gate-loop layout and the availability of isolated bias rails — which is why Chip Volta released companion bias controllers alongside the MOSFET catalog.
When you requalify a silicon stage to SiC, treat dv/dt, common-mode current through the isolated driver, and SOA at repetitive avalanche as first-class items in the design review. Datasheet Rds(on) at 25 °C is not the number that sizes the heatsink.
